CNN misleads

Few hours ago the Katunayaka air force base was attacked by LTTE and it's confirmed that it had no threats to the Katunayaka International Airport. Look at how CNN reported this issue... it's a shame...

  1. That's really bad, although I'm not surprised. It's not the first time that international media spread misleading info.

It’s not misleading. It’s the damn truth. Having one runaway in place how can they tell this is Airport and that is Air force base? Come on man… Tell the truth. You are so emotional when it comes to the matters of Sri Lankan politics. You are the biased one not them. Accept the damn truth.

Simple example: Say one bugger broke the fence of one side of your side. Will you still say that it’s not yours and it’s the neighbor’s fence?

Second thing; whom asked them to operate military base inside a civilian Air Port? Ask them to build a one for SLAF, rather than wasting billions of rupees for war and bloody weerawila air strip (I do not call it an Air Port, just an air strip).

Don't think you have gone through that news item carefully. It's in thier (CNN) main page they say Sri Lankan Air Port is under attack... but in the news item it self, they say it's Air force base. This means they were quite aware it's not the air port being under attack, but the air force base. But thay still highlighted it in their main page as "Air Port". This is crazy...

Even though its the adjecent air base, still they can defend the news item man...

  5. Well, yes they are located close together, but the passenger airport is separate and wasn't affected at all. No passenger died or injured, no passenger aircraft was damaged and not a single thing within the passenger airport was damaged. So, this is good enough to determine that there was no attack to the airport. The fact is Air force air base was attacked; well airport is close to that, so for few hours security was tightened, that does not mean airport was attacked. In 9/11, WTC was attacked, all the other buildings, roads etc. close it were also affected as they were located close, but does that mean that terrorists attacked those buildings? No, they attacked the WTC, and everyone calls it as the WTC attack. So whats the difference here? Airbase was attacked. Airport was close to it, had minor security impact, so CNN should call it as an attack on airbase, airport being close to it is an additional detail and definitely not the heading.

On the other hand, let's be realistic, Sri Lanka is not that rich. Yes, agreed, its good if we can have the air base at a separate place, but if our financial status does not allow it, what can we do? Lets not criticise weerawila new airport, it’s a new initiative, trying to take things to the village, so everyone should encourage it rather than laugh at it. Hamabatota/Matara etc. can be a joke to some people, but its Sri Lankans who live there, its the birthplace to many great Sri Lankans. Sanath Jayasuriya comes from south for instance.

So, discussion here should not go in a tangent or confused with irrelevant points. Simple observation to any unbiased person is that CNN just has tried to mislead people as always.
