After Tharanga's fabulous innings in the semifinal, very few people try to target Memory Bank and try to criticize its stand to replace Tharanga with Marvan. I received a comment just after the match finished – around 3.45 AM SL time. Memory Bank is wide open for different opinions but not for idiot’s stupid comments – so I had to remove that comment, which I doubt being sent by a ‘Cricket Idiot’.Let me explain Memory Bank’s stand to replace Tharanga with Marvan for the semifinal.
This is not just my voice – but a collective voice from the entire Sri Lanka, from the first test captain Bandula Warnapura to a Pettah three-wheeler driver. By the time of semifinal, Tharanga was the player who had the lowest average in the world cup. Even his two fifties were not very confident knocks. This is how Bandula Warnapura in a TV interview compared Marvan with Tharanga.
“Neither of them bowls – there is no difference in their fielding – in batting Tharanga is out of form. Experience wise Marvan is well ahead.”
That is the logic. As per the logic, the correct decision is to replace Tharanga with Marvan. Even during the commentary Michael Atherton emphasized the fact that there is a huge risk in playing continuously an out for form player. It’s going to kill his career as well – he further explained.
That’s the reality – and I don’t think neither of them was personally against Tharanga. Tharanga is a very courageous & talented player – but some idiots can’t understand this simple truth.
A decision can be either logical – based on facts or intuitive. Mahela goes by intuitive decisions. He’s a lucky captain and most of the time his decisions work. Not to replace Tharanga in the semifinal is also a decision which worked for him.But let’s take the other one – to have Dilhara instead of Maharoof. With the facts Maharoof is well ahead of Dilhara & he also became the man of the match in the match just before the semifinal. So the logic is to go with Maharoof. But Mahela thought otherwise and went with Dilhara. What was the result? New Zealand scored 45 of his five overs. In that case Mahela’s decision failed. That’s the beauty of cricket & when you go by facts the risk is minimal.
One more thing – in the stupid comment the previous cricket idiot posted, he questioned Memory Bank, "Why not suggesting Sanath axed off from the team?" - What a sarcastic question is this? This is a clear indication of his ignorance. How in the earth you compare Sanath with Tharanga?
I wish wisdom for this cricket idiot.
Very well said, some people seem to take things really personally for some unkown reason.
ReplyDeleteThis is not just SL, other countries do the same thing and this is not just cricket even, other games also do the same thing. Why else would you need to keep a squad? It's part of the strategy! nothing personal.
It seems Majority of your country wants instant solutions.
ReplyDelete:(
Luckily Cricket team selectors try to find solid solutions and that may be the reason why your country is on on top in the game of Cricket but nothing ELSE.
From your post I can understand that u as a serious emotional person, and a hardliner.
ReplyDeletePrabath... don't worry… this person really seems to be a 'Cricket Idiot" as you mentioned in your mail... This man can't understand simple English... Also he seems to be a very stubborn person who does not tolerate others thoughts and always thinks he's the man... he..he.. wonder how others in his company work with him...
