Australia beat Sri Lanka by 53 runs (D/L) in the world cup final 2007.They were like batting robots. Gilchrist mercilessly murdered Sri Lanka while the rest chipped in with 20/30 valuable runs.Everything from winning the toss to the last ball of the match went in Australia’s way. It was a brave decision by Ponting to bat first and very well rewarded. The wicket was very flat and never deteriorated through out the match.
It was not a professional bowling approach by Sri Lanka which included 16 wides and 3 no-balls. Sri Lanka boasted to be the best bowling side in the tournament and didn't want to show their key bowlers to Aussies in their super eight match. Vass and Murali did not play in the super eight match against Australia. Aussies managed to score 54 off Vass in his eight overs and 44 off Murali in his seven. Neither of them took a wicket.
Malinga was the only promising bowler in yesterday's bowling attack. He surprised Hayden with his fire-works and ended up with 2 for 49 in his eight overs.
Needless to say, fielding was absurd. No half chances were taken. Dilhara could not hold into a tough chance given by Gilchrist while he was in fifties. That was the turning point of the match - Gilchrist devastated Sri Lankan bowling.
Tharanga started quite well with a first bowl boundary - but could not hold his nerves. In the third over Tharanga departed for 6. It was all up to Jayasuriya and Sangakkara from then. They kept Sri Lanaka hopes high. Spectators started shouting, "SRI LANKA... SRI LANKA". Sangakkara lived dangerously till he hit a massive six for McGrath, who played in his last ODI. Sangakkara got out for a well made 54 off 52 balls.
Hiccups started in the Sri Lanka innings. Jayasuriya got out for 63 in his last world cup match. Departure of 1996 world cup hero only left very few hopes in Sri Lanka supporters. Mahela's body language never suggested that he had any plans to get near the target. Silva & Dilshan could not do much. Once again Australia proved, they are invincible.
Our players are great.. when they play well that is - no one's certain till the last moment whether they would or not. Good form is some thing really we can not count on from our players.
ReplyDeleteBut for the kangaroos, it's a totally different story...
Son, you have a long way to go to understand about "great players" and "Good form". Player is great when they play well or not. I agree on one thing in your comment, it is "NO ONE IS CERTAIN" and that is why our countries did not even got selected to the super eights.
