As per Cricinfo:Upul Tharanga, the out-of-form opener, looks all set to retain his place in the semi-final line-up amid reports that former captain Marvan Atapattu could replace him. Tharanga has managed only 17 runs in the last three innings but has been assured of his place by Asantha de Mel, the chairman of Sri Lankan selectors.
"We must not forget that Tharanga scored two centuries against England last year and also scored two centuries in the Champions Trophy," de Mel said. "In this World Cup also he was the highest scorer with 65 against India."
Mr. Asantha de Mel..., we all Sri Lankans wait eagerly to see the results of your 'brave' decsison...!
What a sarcastic hope. It shows that you have a hidden feeling that tharanga would fail again. But, why is that? Why don't you hope for the best? Is majority of your country think like this? If so...what a shame.....
ReplyDeleteWorld Cup is not something to experiment - we should put the best team we have. Tharanga is a good player but he's out of form these days, so he should be rested. On the other hand Marvan is an experienced player who's very technically correct in his batting. Specially in the case of the bouncy wicket we get for the semifinal - Marvan is the ideal player. Even Tharanga knows personally that he's out of form and taking the chance of Marvan. So he might be under enormous pressure - and we can’t expect very much from him in the semi's.

ReplyDeleteIt's stupid to hope without action. It's rational to drop out some one who's not performing constantly from a match and bring in some one else.
Nobody is hoping that Tharanga will fail, people are just expressing their views in what they think would be the best for the country, remember this is a team game not an individual contest!
