This is the latest addition to my book shelf.Thomas L. Friedman talks about three eras of Globalization.
Globalization 1.0 is from 1492 to 1800 and was governed by the muscle power, the horse power, the wind power and the steam power. From 1800 to 2000 it’s Globalization 2.0 and it’s all about the multinational companies governing the global economy. Globalization 3.0 is from 2000 onwards – this is where individuals take their image to the world. With the aid of the cutting edge technology and the advances in communication technology during the last decade or so – the entire world is connected. Most of the jobs from US are out sourced to Bangalore and jobs from Japan are out sourced to Dalian – China. The connectivity was made a possibility and this is Friedman’s flat world.
All in all this seems to be nice book. Only completed one third of it and more to go.
I read the book 'Offshore Nation' (http://www.offshorenation.com/) and I think it elaborates on this 3.0 version of it. It also gives a detailed explanation about how offshore industry works/should work concentrating on IT/BP Outsourcing/Bangaloring work. The authors try to build/potray it as a new nation (Hence the title of the book) simmilar to 'Flat world' used in the book you read.
